Dr. David A. Gerst, DPM

Dr. David A. Gerst has always had two interests: medicine and sports. As an athlete throughout his childhood and into his college years, the capabilities of the human body as well as maintaining a healthy body were both often on his mind. It was natural that his journey would lead him to combine those two passions by pursuing a career in podiatry. For almost 30 years, Dr. Gerst has been helping Chicagoans with their foot needs through his podiatry practice. Beyond routine office foot care, Dr. Gerst is board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, which gives him the ability to offer his patients a wide range of treatment options.  
  • Dr.Gerst earned his bachelor's degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He received his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
  • Dr. Gerst did Post Graduate work at Michael Reese Hospital located on Chicago’s south side, as well as with Chatham Foot Specialists in Chicago.
  • Dr. Gerst has been treating Chicagoland patients for their foot problems since 1990 and has 20 years of experience. Dr. Gerst is board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
  • He is a member of the medical staff of Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago and currently serves as Medical Staff President.
  • Dr. Gerst served as the Medical Staff Secretary and Chairperson of the Credentials Committee of Advocate Trinity Hospital.

  Dr. Gerst never gave up his love of sports and athletic activities. He’s competed in a whopping 21 Ironman Triathlons, including one in Kona, HI in 2005. The doctor is also an avid runner, having completed nine marathons, including the prestigious 100th Boston Marathon in 1996. If he’s not running, swimming or biking, you might find Dr. Gerst enjoying the great outdoors.--he’s climbed the famous Mt. Rainier in Washington.
